PC Gamer - For the Gaming Enthusiast!
Pros
Several game demos on the CD and great reviews/strategies.
Cons
None really......except for the current $29.95 subscription rate for 1 year.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
In the end, you can't go wrong with PC Gamer. You'll be a more informed gamer, and hey.....what would the world be without games?
PC Gamer is by far one of the better magazines devoted to PC games out there.
In each jam-packed issue there are tons of reviews of currently released games and for future releases. I've based several purchases of games on this magazine without any disappointment (they knew what they were talking about).

Here's how PC Gamer is organized:
Scoops
Not only do you want to know about the games that are currently for sale, but you also want to be prepared and informed about the games coming up in the future, right? Well, the "Scoops" section is PC Gamer's way of giving you the "scoop" on what to expect. They give you an in depth review of that future game, the progress on the completion of the game, the expected release date, several screen shots, and etc. For the March 2001 issue, PC Gamer is giving you the "scoop" on Age of Wonders II, Fallout Tactics, Stronghold, The Moon Project, and Battle Isle: Dark Space.
Reviews
This is the area where PC Gamer gives you a one to two page review on the games currently available in the market. I've found these reviews to be highly useful. For each review, they give you a final verdict for a summarized note on the reviewed game. For example, for the game "B-17 Flying Fortress II: The Mighty Eighth," the final verdict read:
"Highs: Brilliant visuals; highly configurable; multiple crew positions; high drama."
"Lows: No multiplayer mode; hardly any WWII-era ambiance; can run slow."
"Excellent: 82%"
Like I mentioned before, I've based several game purchases due to the reviews that I've read in PC Gamer, and I haven't been disappointed yet. Oh and don't think that they just review about 5 games or so in each issue, there are usually anywhere from 18-20 reviews in each issue.
Strategy
Are you having trouble with shooting all of your enemies in "Hitman: Codename 47?" Or maybe you just want a walk-through in order to finish the last game that you just bought? Well, have no fear because PC Gamer provides you with the strategies, walk-throughs, and other tips/hints for 1-2 games in each issue. So, this way you won't have to call that 1-900 tip hotline number to get to the next level!
The Hard Stuff
Playing games doesn't just involve the software.....so PC Gamer's section of "Hard Stuff" deals with the hardware end of the playing games. You'll get reviews on various pieces of hardware from graphic boards, to monitors, to speakers, to controllers, and etc. They also have a "HS Tech Q&A" area, so that you can get your hardware questions answered.
Departments
Besides the Scoops, Reviews, Strategy, and Hard Stuff areas of each issue, PC Gamer has several departments for editorials, opinions, and other miscellaneous gaming news. Those departments are Disc Page, Eyewitness, Extended Play, The Point After, The Killing Box, Alternate Lives, The Desktop General, Sim Column, Letters, and Backspace.
THE CD
Yep, I've saved the best for last, people. Each PC Gamer issue comes with a demo CD with about 5-10 playable demo games, so that you can try out the latest games without having to wait for the download from their website. In the March 2001 issue, the CD has the game demos for Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance, Oni, Rune, No Escape, and Fifa 2001.
